Home for the Holidays
In case any of you out there had thought that I had abandoned my blogging, I had a major disaster with my computer. I didn’t want anyone in Moscow to repair it so I waited till I returned to Canada to get it fixed. Unfortunately I lost all my data and had to have the hard drive replaced. Now I am back to normal thanks to my daughter Tash for rebuilding my blog site in no time at all.
This is the first time in quite a few years that we are spending Christmas with my side of the family in Vancouver. My brother David and his family are coming from Singapore as well so it will be a houseful at My sister Ruth’s place. I have one more sister, Lenna, who lives close but has a large family, so we are splitting up the celebration dinners. Christmas day will be for half the family then Boxing day will include all the nieces and nephews. I think we counted 27 for Boxing day.
In the lead up to Christmas, the kids are all home from university and Grandma(90 yrs. old and almost blind) gave a Russian Cooking Class. The girls jumped right in to make the borscht while my 24 yr. old nephew took charge when it came to the Veranyki (perogies to Ukrainians). And to complete the dinner, golubtsy or cabbage rolls.
My sister Ruth and I are planning the usual Turkey dinner but this time Ruth is insisting on Brining the turkey to keep it moist. It will be so nice to have a normal Turkey instead of the strange Russian ones we had at Thanksgiving. Tonight is the night we are sitting down to plan exactly what will be on the menu for both days. The girls have volunteered to make the desserts for Boxing day and have spent the afternoon leafing through dozens of recipe books looking for the perfect ending to a memorable holiday. More adventures form Vancouver to follow.
